Review of NHS Access to non-UK residents.

Tim Clapham of LICC sent an email to LICC on 18th August 2003 which is of particular importance to many of our members in Spain:

'There is a consultation document on Access to the Health Service to those from abroad (including British subjects and pensioners) which has major repercussions for those who live abroad often in a sort of legal limbo and who may no longer have the opportunity for health care in the UK. The deadline for representations is end October. I suggest we notify our members as even the Evening Standard has drawn attention to its dangers.'

It might be, therefore, important to have these issues discussed at the branches' next GMs. Certainly we should be submitting branch replies, and if possible a CLP response before the deadline. You will see from the official literature that comments are being requested universally so members may want to respond individually. If anyone does do so it would help if they kept or circulated a copy of their response for internal coordination prior to sending an official LI Spain view.

It would help if you do download copies to try to distribute them to members without on-line access facilities.
