The French Labour Party Group

The French Labour Party Group has only very recently been formed. In this big country close coordination is difficult but we are making a start as follows :
1. We have a Secretary, Chairman and Treasurer
2. We are sending out a survey to our present 112 members. This we hope will give us guidance on likely levels of activity, possibilities of local co-operation as well as contact information.
3. With the survey will go a copy of our manifesto.
4. We are intent on publishing articles in the English press in France - below is the first attempt.
5. Copies of the survey and the manifesto are available from the secretary by e-mail.

We'll keep the Red Flag flying here !

The migrants from the United Kingdom to France number tens of thousands and still they come, to work, to play, to retire. To almost all of them, to leave their homeland is not to forget their homeland. In fact they bring with them the many and varied features of their previous existence, successfully blending them in with those of the towns and villages in France where they settle.
Socially and politically there have been many success stories and congratulations are due all round, to the French for their warm welcome, and to those from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England who have made an effort to learn the language and participate in the life here.
Among the many who have settled here are those who believe that it is important to continue to campaign for an ever-improving quality of life both here in France and in the United Kingdom. Many have been elected onto local councils thereby making a significant contribution to the quality of their own lives as well as to that of their new neighbours. Some, particularly members of the Labour Party, are keen to continue and develop joint political enterprises, both locally and nationally, in particular with La Partie Socialiste.
Meeting in Paris recently, the French Labour Party Group established its organisation, published its manifesto, and set out a programme to activate all of the socialists among the fifty thousand or so United Kingdom residents. The first aim is to give support to the Labour Government in the United Kingdom and the second, where possible, is help La Partie Socialiste elect a socialist president in 2007. That just might mean a new future for France, not dissimiliar to that economic miracle of the last ten years in the UK produced by the outstanding Labour Government.
Whichever you prefer Red Flag or Red Rose, we have no hesitation in commending the French Labour Party Group to your attention, especially if you wish to see the economic miracle in the UK continue, and especially if you believe  in the same principles as those who have, over the years, hoisted that Flag or waved that Rose. We in the French Labour Party Group think that you should join the Labour Party now. We also think that you should join our current campaign to insist that Parliament repeal the Act that stops our right to vote in UK elections after fifteen years. We are for ever citizens of the UK and until the day we die we should still have the right to vote. That right was fought for at great cost and we are not prepared to see it lost. Are you ?
We are a thinking progressive group of democratic socialists keen to join with those of like mind. We meet periodically to think through our policies and we together plan the necessary action to follow them through. The 2007 Presidential campaign in France, the prospect of a new Prime Minister in the UK are among current features which make this an interesting time, time for serious thought and serious action. Join us.
