Summer 2008
Labour International
Labour International is the overseas branch of the UK Labour Party. Currently it has more than 600 members worldwide in 40 countries. It is in effect an official constituency of Labour but without a seat in the UK Parliament. Work is still going on on the LI constitution relating to its powers including representation on national committees. The distribution of members is very unequal. There are several active branches where the concentration of members is high: Brussels, Geneva, Valencia and Andalucia all have regular meetings and communicate with each other and Labour head office, submitting resolutions and making contributions to policy documents. The first three of these branches also publish information on their branch websites. There is a main LI website at www.labourint.org.uk which links to the operational branch sites and to the main Labour Party site. Currently LI is calling for members in less well-populated areas of membership to volunteer as a recognised contact for those areas - see below.
The LI's executive is the Labour International Coordinating Committee (LICC), consisting of six elected LI members elected on a rotating basis by the LI membership. The latest election was in May 2007 - more details in the Secretary's Election ResultsCircular.
Current (Summer 2008) LICC membership is:
| Name | Post | Branch | |
| Timothy Clapham | Chair | Poland Blp | timclapham@poczta.onet.pl |
| Jeremy Millard | Secretary | Denmark Blp | jeremy.millard@teknologisk.dk |
| Tania Rogers | Membership Secretary | France Blp | tania.rogers@live.com |
| Sylvia Moore | Dep. Chair / Treasurer | Switzerland Blp | ssindamanoy@aol.com |
| Rob Navin | Member | USA Blp | rob_navin@hotmail.com |
The LICC customarily holds its AGM at the Labour Party Conference venue. Ordinarily, after the AGM there is an Open Meeting to which all card-carrying Labour members are eligible to attend. Members who are registered as LI members have the rights to speak and vote on LI and Labour Party matters raised at the meeting which is chaired by the LICC chair.
Each year LI members can elect one delegate to the Labour Party Conference, who can vote on motions to Conference. This election normally takes place simultaneously with the LICC election.
